It's here.

Let the Madness begin.

As Pat Forde has reminded us, we do not have to wait until the 65-team field is set to kick off the national sporting celebration that is the college basketball postseason. The de facto, 308-team tournament that commences with conference tournaments and the awarding of automatic bids, proceeds through Selection Sunday and 60 tournament games in 11 days, and finishes at Ford Field in Detroit for the 2009 Final Four, is upon us.

To celebrate this, our greatest annual sporting event and the most wonderful time of the year, we have started this blog. For the next month, we will be following all the mayhem of March. The thrilling victories and the agonizing defeats. The improbable upsets and the Cinderella stories. The high-majors, the mid-majors, and the low-majors. The Currys, the Griffins, and the Blairs. The bursting bubbles, the bracket busters, and the buzzer beaters. The Madness. Join us for the March to Detroit.

  1. I've joined. First question: Provy in or out?

  2. Good question. The Friars are as bubbly as it gets, and a lot depends on what happens over the next week. Right now, they've got a low RPI (69), but a solid 10-7 Big East conference record and wins against Pitt and Syracuse. Needless to say, Thursday's game against Villanova is huge. The way the other bubble teams are playing (Gtown, ND, Cincy, Miami, BC), if Providence beats Nova and wins a second round Big East tourney game (they get a first round bye), I think they should be in. Anything short of that, and they'll be sweating it.
