This is outrageous.
With 1:50 left in overtime of a thrilling Mountain Valley championship game, CBS just switched over to Duke-UNC to make sure we wouldn't miss the first few minutes of Duke-UNC - oh, and that too, only after a commercial break.
Outside of local market considerations, this kind of thing never happens, and wouldn't be happening here if it were any two other schools. But God forbid anyone acknowledge the existence of college basketball outside of North Carolina, much less a brilliant finish to a game that will send one team to the Tournament and another home.
UPDATE: Jim Nantz is now claiming that they only switched over in "North Carolina," which makes me wonder what these idiots think "North Carolina" is. I live four hours away in the Washington, DC market. In any event, the broader point still stands here. I like these big rivalry games as much as the next guy, but they're doing the sport a disservice by hyperinflating the significance of a single matchup. It's not even the best or most important game of the weekend.
