In a battle that was tight throughout, Robert Morris (24-10) won the Northeast Conference title over Mount St. Mary's for its first bid since 1992. On a broken play meant to create a shot for Jeremy Chappell, Chappell lost the ball, only it ended up in teammate Dallas Green's hands. Green sank the 10-footer to put RMU up 2 with 2.5 left. Mount St. Mary's, validating my earlier note regarding North Dakota State, chose to call timeout to try to set up a full-court play. Why? RMU is going crazy, the players are unfocused, 2.5 is a short time to try to do something against a set defense. Just let your boys go! Oh well, predictably, the long inbounds pass was stolen at half court. Game.
For you history buffs out there, Robert Morris financed the American Revolution and signed the Declaration of Independence, Articles of Confederation, and Constitution. He negated all those good deeds by founding the U.S. financial system. Mazel Tov! It also strikes me that the above logo makes some rather significant improvements on its namesake, as pictured here.
