The first of the 65 Tournament slots has been taken.
Tomorrow night’s Cornell-Princeton game was supposed to be a quasi-championship game for the Ivy League (the only conference that doesn’t have a postseason tournament, and thus awards its automatic bid to the regular season champion). But those plans have been scuttled, as Columbia unexpectedly defeated Princeton tonight, which, coupled with Cornell’s win over Penn, has given the Ivy League title to Cornell.
This is the second straight title for Cornell, which broke a 20-year Princeton-Penn stranglehold on the conference last year. The Ithacans (led by Ryan Wittman, the son of former Hoosiers star Randy) are looking at a 15 seed in the Tournament. They've got a shot at a 14 seed, depending on how some of the other low-major conferences tournaments play out.
Good luck to the Big Red. Represent.
